30 rooms. 24 minutes. No excuses.

RUNNING LATE is a short precision puzzle-platformer about turning an ordinary commute into one continuous near miss.

Run, control the height of every jump, rebound between walls, read moving trains and timed gates, and restart a failed room almost immediately. Every death adds twenty seconds to the clock. At each interchange, choose whether the next leg should be readable, timed, or brutally direct.

What is inside

  • 30 rooms per run, selected deterministically from 35 hand-built modules
  • Orange connection validators force the intended jumps, walls and moving-platform landings before each exit unlocks
  • Five mechanical tiers: jumping, wall-jumps, moving platforms, timed gates, pressure plates, and mastery combinations
  • Variable jump height, coyote time, input buffering, wall-slide, and wall-jump
  • Instant deaths and sub-quarter-second room restarts
  • Irreversible Local, Express, and Shortcut choices between legs
  • Fresh journey seeds on every new commute, same-seed mastery retries, seed copying, all 30 splits, route history, deaths, and arrival classification
  • A compact 30-room run built for same-seed mastery and immediate retries

Controls

  • Move: A / D or arrow keys
  • Jump: W, Space, or Up; hold for height
  • Wall-jump: push toward a wall and jump away
  • Choose: click, tap, or 1 / 2 / 3
  • Pause: Esc
  • Fullscreen: F or Settings

Landscape touch controls are included. Settings provide independent music and game-effect controls, reduced motion, and fullscreen. Critical surfaces use silhouettes, patterns, motion, and shape in addition to the two-ink palette. There is no spoken dialogue.

The clock does not reset when you do.

AI disclosure: Generative AI assisted development of code, copy, the three shipped transit backgrounds, the commuter animation sheet, and the base cover illustration. Layout, typography, gameplay surfaces, effects, integration, animation framing, and final asset preparation were authored and reviewed for this release. Music and effects are synthesized locally at runtime.
